Know your contract. Enforce your contract. Protect your work.
IAM Local 263 members at the Norfolk Southern Charlotte Roadway Shop recently secured another victory through strong contract enforcement. When Norfolk Southern subcontracted bargaining unit work that should have been performed by IAM members, Local Chairman Robert Stroud worked with District 19 General Chairman Kenny Krause to document the violation and pursue the claims. Together, they ensured the agreement was enforced and members’ work was protected. The subcontracting claims were successfully resolved, resulting in a settlement of $11,895.80, to be divided equally among the active members on the Charlotte Roadway Shop roster.
This is contract enforcement in action. A strong agreement only works when members know it, document violations, and take action. We continue to see an increase in carriers attempting to subcontract bargaining unit work. Stay vigilant. If you see work being contracted out that belongs to the bargaining unit, notify your District 19 General Chairman immediately. Contractual time limits apply, so reporting violations promptly is critical to protecting our members’ work. A special thank you to Local Chairman Robert Stroud and District 19 General Chairman Kenny Krause for their work in enforcing the agreement and delivering this successful outcome.
